Haddy Arief - Drums

In 1976 Giant Step is a band with a mature condition in terms of rock music feeling, musical attitude and aptitude and in this time most of the performances held in some big cities in Indonesia.

In line with this condition Bob Dook our best friend who always making some lyrics for Giant Step songs provides some lyrics such as Giant On The Move, A Fortunate Paradise, Decision, therefore we decide to start to produce album and called Giant On The Move (melody was written by Triawan Munaf) this song we can claimed that this represented all the band member which is every member me, Albert, Triawan, Haddy and Adhy contribute their voices.

This album recorded at SM Record studio in Bandung the first launch is held in Sport Hall in Semarang Central Java, special thanks to Mr. Gandjar our manager who sponsored this launching concert in Semarang

In this album we also can hear the voice of Triawan singing Farewell Today, Albert sing his song Liar and our drummer Haddy Arief sing his song Illusion Way.

To be frank of my opinion with this album, i do really satisfied to work with all the band members, and this is my satisfaction recording achievement since my previous album i made with the band member of Sharkmove/ Ghedechokras which give a similiar musical satisfaction achievement.

In this opportunity me, on behalf of all the band member of Giant Step would like to give a veriy high apreciation to ROCKPOD Records (Rhama Nalendra) for making a reissue album of Giant Step/ Giant On The Move and hope more young generation will listen to Giant Step song list.

Thank you
Jakarta, March 25, 2015
Benny Soebardja

This Reissue dedicated to all Giant Step members and Diehard fans.

In 1980, a new actress Jun TOGAWA came across a talented music producer Koji UENO on the stage of Koji's band 8 1/2 - this fateful encounter could let them form a three-piece electronic-avantgarde outfit GUERNICA. They created retrospective atmosphere such as Japanese cabaret music in 1920s, with Jun's mysteriously antique voices of purely Japanese sensitivity and Koji's strong intention of assimilating into Japanese Dadaistic culture for his production.

GUERNICA could shoot up to stardom in Tokyo with their uncategorized musical style, that was much approved by Haruomi HOSONO (ex-Yellow Magic Orchestra). in 1982 From Haruomi's YEN label they released the debut album 'Kaizoh E No Yakudoh', getting appreciated all around Japan.

Through five year hibernation soon after releasing this album (mainly because of Jun's solo project), GUERNICA gave the short-lived shout again and released two albums - 'Shinseiki E No Unga' (1988) and 'Denrisoh Kara No Manazashi' (1989) - and at last they had gone under suspension for an indefinite period. LE MATCH was born in 1974 from the ashes of LA NOUVELLE FRONTIÈRE, a 7-piece folk band who comprised, among others, the famous Québécois twins Marie-Claire and Richard Séguin. The twins were heavily into folk whereas their keyboard player, Normand Théroux, decided he wanted a heavier sound. LA NOUVELLE FRONIÈRE thus split up into two camps: the twins carrying on as a duo called LES SÉGUIN, and Théroux forming LE MATCH alongwith fellow musicians Pierre-Yves Migneron on guitar and vocals, Gaston Rousseau on bass, Jacques Lauzon on drums and Francis Leduc on violin and flute.

Their sole album "Légendes", released in 1974, is strongly influenced by traditional Québec folk but also has definite progressive moments, lots of keyboards, violin and flute. At the time, it was best known for a track called "Le soleil des plants d'huile", a song about Montreal's east-end oil refineries. It is quite a straightforward folk-prog album, a bit "quaint" at heart - the way bands such as TEMPEST or HORSLIPS are - and quite melodic overall. (progarchives)

Claude Perraudin ‎– Mutation 24 (1977, LP, France)

Risultati immagini per Claude Perraudin Mutation 24

Very much in the Heldon-lite vein of French electronic prog like Patrick Vian or Ose, this, as far as I know is the only commercially available album of Perraudin's, his doings otherwise being documented on library music albums of wonderfully cheesy disco-prog-into-70's TV-station-identification theme music, a compilation of which can be found on the scorebabyannex blog. Former member of Zao and Magma, bass player Dominique Bertram has released 2 albums, this first one is a pretty excellent slept jazz fusion gem with superb funky tracks like 'New-York Nights' or 'Kin Ahau', the totally zeuhl magma inspired 'Maka Kin Jokaya' but the highlight is the title track 'Chinese Paradise' that really sound like a wierdo Talking Heads track.

Ivan Vanoglio / guitars

Five years after their debut Moogg return with new bassist Roberto Matiz and release their second work ''Italian luxury style'' (Mellow Records). Much of the debut's diversity has been gone and sacrified in the name of a jazzier sound close to the likes of the Canterbury Scene and the hottest Italian Jazz Rock groups of the 70's. The bulk of the album is heavily influenced by British Canterbury Prog and acts like Hatfield and the North, Caravan or Matching Mole, featuring romantic/warm vocals when apparent, smooth synth lines and elegant electric piano, jazzy guitar twists. But not everything in here is gentle and non-offensive, the sudden breaks are regular entries in the compositions and lift the cuts to the next level. There also lots of funky elements with piano and clavinet in evidence as well as clean Jazz Rock tunes in the vein of Perigeo or Napoli Centrale. Not as good as the debut, still rewarding and containing quite a few fascinating instrumental exercises. (apps79)

Notes
Released by the catholic book and music publishing company Pro Civitate Christiana on its PCC record label.
Recorded with the Orchestra Cinefonica di Roma and Il Coro Della Natività (Annarita, Francesca, Maria, Franco, Renzo & Tony).

In the late 1960s and 1970s it was not uncommon for religious labels to release beat and soft Italian Prog Rock albums with Christian themes. One of the better ones from an RPI perspective is the delightful QUEL GIORNO DI UVE ROSSE, which Croce's site says was not a proper band but a collection of musicians assigned to recording the project. The heavily religious lyrics were put to music by Giuseppe Cappelletti with orchestral arrangements by Giacomo Dell'Orso. The pressing was very limited and the album is a quite rare. To our knowledge it has not been released on CD though it probably should be. For now the album's two side long parts can be heard on YouTube. I was not able to find much on the key players behind the project, but bassist Mario Scotti was a session player with a long career. He passed away in Rome in 2001. (Progarchives)

Patrizio Fariselli ‎– Antropofagia (1977, LP, Italy)

Risultati immagini per Patrizio Fariselli ‎– Antropofagia (1977, LP, Italy)

An outstanding recording, and an unjustly neglected contribution to prepared piano performance by Area member Patrizio Fariselli issued on Cramps in 1977 (in the legendary "DIVerso" series), a record with energy that's somewhere between John Cage and Cecil Taylor! At times, Patrizio Fariselli plays with a great sensitivity to silence – letting it emerge with as much force as his well-placed work on the keys of the piano. But at other times, he comes off with a full, frenzied sound that's really dynamic and almost explosive – so much so that we're left wondering about the state of the piano after he's walked away! There's a bit of vocalization on the record, and titles include "In Side Out Side", "Lenny Tristano", "Anthropafagia", and "Scorie". (Soundohm)

Quasar ‎– Nebular Trajectory (1979, LP, Australia)

Side A
A1. Force Funk (2:46)
A2. Mysteries Of Eleusis (6:09)
A3. Entropy (11:52)
Side B
B1. Images From Abyssal Plain (6:08)
B2- Nebular Trajectory (14:27)

Musicians
Trevor Tiplady / Drums
Barry Tiplady / Bass
Len Henderson / Guitar

Quasar are a cosmic fusion band with spacious avant-garde textures highlighted by Frippian sustained guitar leads and plenty of fuzz bass. Perhaps a combination of Mahavishnu Orchestra and Starless era King Crimson? And the answer to that question? SBB! Especially around the time of "Nowy Horizont". And when you hear the lengthy fuzz bass solo, that solidifies the comparison - especially when you consider the debut by SBB. "Man Coda" is a bit looser in structure, following on from the title track of "Nebular Trajectory". (Record Heaven)

Quasar ‎– Man Coda (1981, LP, Australia)

Side A
A1. Reality's Way
A2. Zeitgeist
Side B
B1. The Little Prince
B2. Man Coda

Musicians
Bass Guitar, Effects – Barry Tiplady
Electric Guitar, Effects – Len Henderson
Percussion – Trevor Tiplady

Killer Aussie LP from from 1981. This is completely off-the-hook abstract Australian psych-rock. At the time self-produced by the Quasar and never formally distributed, copies of this super-limited pressing were creeping their way across the globe, and eentually it has been reissued. Recorded direct to digital tape by just a drummer, bassist, and guitarist, the sounds run the gamut from surging, moody, textural, and nearly beatless masterpieces like “Man Coda” and “Reality’s Way” to the tense, jazzy, and angular “The Little Prince” to the stupid ill cut “Zeitgeist,” an all-out sonic rock assault that would make Les Claypool shit in his pants. This song also has an insane drum intro. Demented genius. (Soundohm)

Keyboardist Kit Watkins was the child of two classical piano teachers. After learning to play the piano at a very young age, Watkins played keyboards in cover bands, progressing up to songs by ELP and Rush. In college he met guitarist Stanley Whitaker, who introduced him to even more of the prog rock world. In 1973 Watkins joined Whitaker's band Happy The Man.

In 1979, after only releasing two albums (more would be released later), Happy The Man broke up. Watkins then joined Camel, and recorded I Can See Your House From Here with them. Since then Watkins has released numerous keyboard based solo albums, as well as albums with Coco Roussel and Brad Allen. His solo work ranges from Happy the Man style progressive rock to ambient music to electronic variations of classical pieces.

Graziano Mandozzi ‎– Masada (1977, LP, Austria)

This musical masterpiece has been written for the soundtrack of the Hans Kresnik Ballet with the same name in 1977. Expect experimental sounds, weird synths jams, twisted electronic jazz and banging psych funk throughout the album, creating a seamlessly segued side of ghostly, decaying acoustic sounds captured within the stone-clad building's numerous corridors, lifts, studios and stairwells. As you'd imagine, the effect is immensely evocative, at once recalling Daphne Oram's experiments, while acknowledging the structural aesthetics of sound sculptors like Egisto Macchi or Bruno Spoerri. The LP sounds superb as it has been mastered and cut by Miles Showell at the Abbey Road Studio in London. (Soundohm)
