1976-1977 Concerts

The first half of this album is from their concert in February 1976 that lead to the arrest of them and many of their fans and collaborators, and then prompted Vaclav Havel and others to write and sign Charta 77 as a proclamation against the actions of the government (and their violations of international treaties they had signed).
The second half is from a concert over a year and a half later (since some of the members spent time in jail) at Vaclav Havel's house. So obviously, this whole recording is from a pretty important time for the underground culture in Czechoslovakia at the time.. (QWE2323)

Recorded in 1974/75, mainly at Houska Castle, enabled by the castle's then warden Svatopluk Karásek, with some songs being recorded in Prague. The album could not be officially released and distributed under the former Communist regime in Czechoslovakia; instead fans duplicated tapes with one another, often resulting in poor technical quality. It was released in 1978 in France by SCOPA Invisible Production. In the Czech Republic a remastered version was published in 2001 by Globus Music. The album title is a parody of The Beatles' album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Most of the songs on the record are settings of poems by Egon Bondy. The author of the album title is Ivan Hartl, a Czechoslovak emigrant living in London.
