Finnish band KUUSUMUN PROFEETTA was born in 2001, a band that grew out of and initially partially co-existed with long time band Moon Fog Prophet. One might say that they in fact were the same band: Kuusumun Profeetta is just Finnish for Moon Fog Prophet after all. And the latter did release an album in 2002, which was to be their last under that moniker. But as the new band name also brought with it a slight change in stylistic expression, one might as well regard them as separate but closely related entities in their own right.
But even as their life as Moon Fog Prophet came to an end, they had already established their new identity as Kuusumun Profeetta, making their debut as a Finnish language act in 2001 with Kukin Kaappiaan Selässään Kantaa. And when playing live they were strengthened by Irina Niemelä on saxophone and Daniel James Finley on percussion and backing vocals at this point in time. Later on their live excursions might occasionally be strengthened by one or more of a group of additional musicians: Jyrki Laiho (guitars), Elli Keltto, Emmi Sydänmaa and Ilana Vähätupa (backing vocals). 2002 also saw their second release Jatkuvasti Maailmaa Pelastamaan Kyllästynyt Supersankari hit shelves, around the same time as Italian label Mellow Records decided to release the final Moon Fog Prophet disc Taunting Tin Bells Through The Mammal Void.
The following year Jyrki Laiho (guitars) and Samuli Peltoniemi (trumpet) became the latest permanent members of the band. In 2004 Sanansaattaja Oraakkeli Salamurha Hyökkäysvaunu was released, their third full length production as Kuusumun Profeetta. A popular album, and their first to hit the Finnish album charts.
At this time the band started cooperating with composer Harri Kerko, and 2006 saw the band release a new album that bore the fruits of this crative union: Hymyilevien Laivojen Satama. This cooperation was continued live as well, with two extensive performances that saw Kerko conducting and the band incorporating a multimedia show. But then matters returned to normal again, and when Lyhtykuja was released in 2008 it was a regular band effort. One year later they released Myrskyn Silmään, their first live DVD.
The next couple of years turned out to be silent ones for this Finnish act, due to the individual members being active elsewhere. Apart from a few live appearencs, the most noteworthy to report from this period was the inclusion of Harri Sippola (guitars) as a permanent member. But the band hadn't been completely at ease for this period, as documented when they announced that a new album was on it's way in May, the forthcoming production to be called Huutoja Hiljaisesta Huoneesta. With 2012 set as the tentative year of release. (progarchives)

The Pop-Liisa and Jazz-Liisa broadcast session series presents previously unreleased and forgotten gems from the biggest names of Finnish prog and jazz of the 1970’s.
Never bootlegged and known up until now only to a few faithful servants (and largely thought to have been lost for ever), these sessions offer a hitherto unrivalled look into the state of Finnish jazz and progressive rock between the years 1972-1977. Imagine if the sessions recorded by John Peel had only recently been discovered, and you get an idea of the cultural weight of what is being brought into the light of day here.
Originally recorded as broadcasts by YLE (the national radio service Yleisradio, ”the Finnish BBC”), the thirty-four Liisankatu sessions are a genuine who’s who of Finnish prog and jazz. Interestingly, anyone with even basic knowledge of the era’s biggest bands will recognize familiar names at play within these obscure bands.
As such, these sessions provide the missing link between jazz and prog, explaining through spirited performances – and largely unknown collaborations – the instrumental prowess and dexterity of these players and bands. What’s best, these sessions show these exceptional bands playing for the moment in front of a hundred strong studio audience, not weighed down by the tedium of studio recording, and thus somehow miraculously managing to capture the best of both worlds: studio performances in front of a live audience. (svart)

Tasavallan Presidentti ‎– Lambertland (1972, CD, Finland)

The third album by Tasavallan Presidentti was also their first with the lead singer Eero Raittinen. Frank Robson was the lead singer on their first two albums. Both of those are really good albums but I prefer Lambertland as the ultimate Tasavallan Presidentti album. I still consider Robson as a better singer than Raittinen because Raittinen's English isn't that great.
However the instrumental work on Lambertlant is just superb five stars quality. Just like the songwriting too. Any of these six songs could be called as a highlight here but I still choose "The Bargain" and "Dance" as my favourite songs. "Dance" shows Tolonen's skills on the guitar once again. It's easy to understand why the instrumental work of Lambertland got so positive reviews at the time of it's release.
Lambertland is often considered as the magnum opus by Tasavallan Presidentti and I have to agree with that. This is five stars jazzy progressive rock record and one of the greatest albums from Finland ever. Their absolute best.
Tracklist:
1. Lounge (8:25)
2. Lambertland (6:59)
3. Celebration Of The Saved Nine (3:33)
4. The Bargain (7:17)
5. Dance (5:57)

Senni Eskelinen & Stringpurée Band - Senni Eskelinen Stringpurée Band/ Fedja (2008/ 2010, CD, Finland)

STRINGPURÉE BAND is a new and innovative trio from the Northern Savo region in Finland, and who sports a sound that combines modern arrangements and studio technology with more traditional instrumentation and mood. The band's primary 'engine' is the electric version of a Finnish string instrument known as a kantele, played by Senni Eskelinen.
The band's music is all instrumental ranging from neo-folk to free-form, and reflecting the strong tradition of introspective and progressive tendencies found in much of Scandinavian music.
While still in their early stages, STRINGPURÉE BAND has the makings of a long-lasting and vibrant act with the capacity to produce interesting and innovative sounds for years to come. Progarchive

Stringpurée Band plays 100% raw progressive kantele -music. The trio, hailing from the backwoods of the Northern Savo region in Finland, is here to win over audiences of all kinds with their innovative instrumental sound. The band has already, in its few years of existence, managed to develop a sound which is highly personal. Partial credit for this of course also goes to Stringpurée Band’s unique line up, which consists of electric kantele, bass and drums. The original music composed by the three members echoes the roots of Finnish progressive and psychedelic musical tradition. So go ahead, have some Stringpurée. http://texicalligallery.com/portfolio/stringpuree-band/
