NIRGAL VALLIS was a Mexican group that released one album in the eighties. The line-up of the group was: JOSE LUIS FERNANDEZ LEDESMA (keyboards, jaranas, kalimba, recorders, acoustic twelve string guitar), Ramon Nakash (acoustic and electric violins, mandolin, tenor recorder), Alejandro Schmidt (acoustic and electric twelve string guitars), Rafael Gonzalez (percussion) and Claudia Martinez de Alba (voice). Ledesma, Nakash and Schmidt who were high school friends founded the group.
The only album "Y Murio la Tarde" was released in 1985. The music in this album is very mellow symphonic progressive and it has a strong folk influence. The group reunited for a period of time and recorded some new tracks for the re-release of the album and the 1995 released version by Musea Records includes these new tracks. This is an enjoyable Mexican album that should please fans of folk oriented symphonic.
NIRGAL VALLIS was the first group of Jose Luis Fernandez Ledesma Q. who is one of the most-known Mexican progressive musicians nowadays. He has released many solo albums and also albums in contribution with singer/composer Alquimia. (progarchives)

This mutli-instrumentalist performs a pleasant mix of Celtic and Baroque prog with Italian vocals. The music features extensive flute used in a very ethnic style and delicat harpsichord chords. The vocals are in Italian, but the liner notes provide English translations. He evokes Angelo Brandauardi's most Progressive works or LE ORME in their acoustic productions.

Annie in Wonderland is the first solo album by Annie Haslam, vocalist with the 1970s band Renaissance. It was produced by Roy Wood, who also wrote some of the material, arranged all the songs, played nearly all of the instruments (including an uncredited lead vocal on "I Never Believed in Love"), and illustrated the cover. The album features a range of musical styles enabling Haslam to experiment with vocal styles outside the ethos of Renaissance. The range for which Haslam is well-known is still apparent, however, especially in the showcase number "Rockalise". The album peaked at No. 167 on the Billboard "pop albums" chart. (wikipedia)

On 1968 he played in a band called VOX POPULI, that later would become SOM IMAGINÁRIO. In 1970, and now living in England, he used to be a fan of bands such as: PINK FLOYD, LED ZEPPELIN and GENESIS, who would have great influence on his musical production. Within the next few years, MARCO ANTONIO ARAUJO studied guitar and cello in Rio de Janeiro.
In 1977, once again in Belo Horizonte, he joined the symphonic orchestra and soon (1980) his first album, "Influências" was released. With only six instrumental tracks, he had already achieved an amazing sense of balance and created a personal style.
MARCO ANTONIO ARAUJO is a classic when it comes to brazilian prog, and also a highly recomended artist for anyone who likes both symphonic rock and prog folk.

Originally Bal Masqué was written as an instrumental opera for Flairck and balletdancers. The first performances took place during a Dutch-Belgian tour in the spring of 1984. The libretto of this piece is based on the idea of a masqued ball with a number of important guests, who are staying in a place which is shut off from the outside world because of approaching danger. Apart from an overture and a reprise the music consists of various dances or acts in which one or more of the guests come to the foreground. When, after the Overture, all the guests have arrived, the hostess steps forward in a piece called The Countess. Presto da l'Estate (the third part of the Summer of the Four Seasons by A. Vivaldi) is part of the music played by the musicians at the ball. Inventions (part 1 the Ivory Tower, part 2 Eureka) is the dance of a General and The Rich (a song written by G. Moustaki) is about all the guests. The Debate is the story of a politician and Nocturne is a description of the end of a party. The piece ends with a Reprise of the opening theme.

The fourth record has tempted us, after travelling around in the business for some years, to write a suite about the circus, because we were slowly changing into an (instrumental) circus ourselves. The Crossing tells about the journey from Europe to America. The Cooke Circus was the first to cross the ocean with 40 artists, 42 horses and 14 ponies. During this voyage a girl was born, called Oceana. She later became a famous ropedancer. The Circus starts with a view inside an empty tent, after which the actual show starts. It is opened by an instrumental circus orchestra with a central theme that is used later on to join 4 important acts, in which each time a solo instrument performs. This first act is a solo mortale on the twelve-string guitar. The jugglar plays a central part in the second act, in which the bass guitar is assisted by tabla's. In the break, provided by the street organ "De Arabier", you can turn the record to side B. In the third act the flute steps forward in a dance on the rope. The violin plays the clown in the fourth act and finally the circus orchestra plays the central theme again in the parade. Dedicated to Thomas Visser. In Struggle for Life the cavalry enters the ring.
Sergeant Major Astley started the modern circus. After quitting the army he gave performances with daring horse-acts. Around 1770 he extended this with clowns and rope-dancers, accompanied by a circus orchestra. (by flairck)
