ODYSSEE-WHITE SWAN (1978, LP, GERMANY)

Way above average German symphonic progressive album. This one has a lot more meat on its bones than most of the somnambulant snoozers coming from there during this time. For one thing, the tempo is faster and they mix in some time changes, to help keep it interesting throughout. Full fledged band sound with a thick production. The thematic sections are well developed, and a melody or two can actually be committed to memory. There’s a definite Genesis influence, but not as much as Neuschwanstein, Ivory and Sirius. There’s even a little funky business in the bass lines. A very good album that could use a legit CD reissue. (OML)

Hi, i'm very interesting in this one and in all good sinfonic album from the world, but i'm not able to download this and others from Rapidshare. I started free infinite times but nothing happen, this stupid moneyfinder site says "Please try again in 2 minutes. If you do not want to wait, become Premium member". There are good e gratis file sharing sites, Zshare, 4shared and others. I pay three euro every hour to shipping on internet in a internet point, fifteen euro for a single CD, and i don't want pay for Rapidshare. Thanks for your precious help. Ill return

Germany has provided great bands in sinfonic field, like Grobschnitt, Novalis and a second generation, very prolific in number, Neuschwanstein, Sirius, Ivory, Tau, Shaa Khan, Oktober, Epidaurus, etc. The common line is almost always the Genesis, Yes, King Crimson or VDDG influences. Odyssees is a very good band with influence from Genesis and Yes but not excessively. Only the last track is more effectively influenced by Genesis of Wind & Wuthering, but have the right pathos. The very good side of this band is a presence of fusion of sinfonic and jazz rock, very much appreciated. A clear example of this fusion is the third track. The instrumental side is simply exceptional, the musicians are technically well prepared and with a evident jazz background. Doesn't miss the classical teutonic vein, typically characterized by pulsating bass and backgrounds of synthesizer. The voice is also good and in the fourth and seventh pieces remembers the singing style of Sirius. Musically speaking some affinity are notable with switzerland Flame Dream, Supervision like period. The album certainly deserve a digital reprint but unfortunately this depends by the bad strategies of specialized houses, and these are very slow with these albums.
Grateful thanks to Central Do Prog

Anyone know the song titles for this one?

This record rules!

Actually track 4 sounds most like mid-70's gentle giant. Except for the vocals.

A superb find that will be of great boon to collectors and the few who appreciate this music. Really exceptional for a late period private release.

I think this heavy metal music that has symphonic elements; that is, elements that are either borrowed from classical music or, as with progressive rock music
