Pirly Zurstrassen composes for theatre, dance, television and his own groups. He has toured Europe and Africa, releasing a dozen albums under his name. In addition to his duo with Barbara Wiernik, he also currently runs Chromo Sonore, a contemporary music quartet. For several years now, he has been playing the accordion as part of the Musica Dal Vivo trio. He also teaches harmony and sight reading at the Brussels Conservatory.
The music of "H" strives to be absolutely european, much on the esthetic level (influences from folk and medieval music, from the renaissance or even contemporary music), as for its form and structure (the complexity and the themes developed). Nevertheless, there are still obvious links with jazz, like choosing for improvisation, be it collective or individual. The soloists do not improvise on "harmonic grids" anymore, but use melodic and rythmic material that springs from the compositions as support for their improvisations. (igloorecords)
