Dimopoli ‎– Dimopoli (1977, LP, Italy)

Italian singer/songwriter Rino Dimopoli was part of The Four Kents in late-60's and became known as the last singer of Delirium in the 70's, recording a single with the band before they split up.Dimopoli move on to a solo career and in 1977 he recorded an album entitled under his surname and released on the obscure Saar label.
You shouln't expect of course any prog-inclined music here, as Dimopoli shows his talent as a composer of commercial and catchy tunes and the album flows in an easy-going melodic Italian Pop style. But even so he manages to come up with some excellent tracks and the first side of the album is full of well-crafted Pop with beautiful orchestral arrangements, soft piano lines, acoustic textures, female choirs and Dimopoli's fantastic voice, among the best tracks regarding the style. The flipside shows wider influences, even containing a bit of jazzy electric guitars, brass sections or funky grooves, but it does not sound as inspiring as the first one.
Dimopoli also released another album in 1979 under the title ''Se il cielo...oltre il cielo'', reputedly in the same style as the first one.
Not related to prog, but if you come over a copy of ''Dimopoli'' be sure to meet some great Italian Pop with a fair amount of nice melodies thrown in.Recommended. apps79
