The main project of composer/singer/guitarist Nick Prol, The Proletarians are a group of musicians that believe in and share Nick's vision of a mix of accessible and avant-garde and help elevate his melodies by adding their own creative touches and textures to his songs. The band is made up of saxophonist Dave Newhouse of classic avant-jazz rock group The Muffins, who has collaborated with the likes of Fred Frith and Sun Ra's Arkestra as well as bassist/multi-instrumentalist Ben Spees and drummer Connor Reilly of adroit progressive/experimental rock group, The Mercury Tree.

The Proletarians' debut album Loon Attic features guest appearances from a long list of respected collaborators including DIY progressive popster R. Stevie Moore, Bob Drake (solo, Thinking Plague, 5uus, etc), Rob Crow (Pinback, Heavy Vegetable, etc), Thymme Jones (Cheer-Accident), Moe! Staiano (Sleepytime Gorilla Museum), Matt Lebofsky (Secret Chiefs 3), Dave Willey (Thinking Plague, Hamster Theater), Gavin Wallace-Ailsworth (Bent Knee), Paul Sears (The Muffins), Carla Diratz (French experimental vocal artist), the members of Sterbus (Italian prog-pop band), and Mo Ha Dev (Stop Motion Orchestra). The album is produced by adept audio shamans Ben Spees & Ian Beabout, host of the online radio programme Prog Rock Deep Cuts.
