Unknown Italian guitarist Franco Carota begun his career in the 60's with the Beat group Judas from Bologna but he also released two rare solo albums in the 70's.The first one from 1978 on Borgatti Edizioni Musicali, carrying his surname as a title, was in a singer-songwriter style, the second one from 1979 though sees a turn from Carota in a more guitar-based Art-Rock path. Its title was ''Alba tramonto'' and it was released on the obcure Pathos label.

Carota was helped by several session members on guitars, bass, drums and percussion and the first side of the LP has evident MIKE OLDFIELD influences, as Carota's style resembles Oldfield's techniques around the period, consisting of short tracks with a dreamy feel, while his melodic voice is another positive element. As the side unfolds, it becomes more clear that Carota had a strong talent towards multi-influenced guitar lines and his playing offers even Blues and Folk inspirations at moments, while there is also some hints of FRANCO FALSINI of SENSATION'S FIX in his style. The second side is even better, not because of the short ''Spirito nel cuore'', a mix of singer-songwriter stylings and OLDFIELD-ians atmospheres, but mainly due to the 12-min. long ''Esperiment's Control'', the best proof of Carota's talent and an excellent example of what a man can create with his guitars. Ethereal virtuosic delivery next to a very spacey and cosmic atmosphere with the use of electronic sound effects, where also acoustic folky vibes can find some space, and very close to the sound of SENSATION'S FIX.

Carota kept being busy in the music industry with the duo Anywise. Meanwhile, this is an excellent (but rather unpersonal) discovery for fans of 70's guitar heroes in the vein of MIKE OLDFIELD, GORDON GILTRAP, DIDIER BONIN or FRANCO FALSINI, who should be the first to chase this one.But ''Alba tramonto'' is also a fine seminar for anyone regarding guitar-based performances boring. Recommended overall (and not very expensive in case you are not a collector). (apps79)
