Croma was a jazz symphonic group formed in the second half of the 70s, with Toni Puig as sound technician. Recently Lluis Escarrá has been in charge of compiling the themes of that time in a CD that wants to titled as "Double Cos".
I would put them musical or stylistically between Gotic, Atila or Iceberg. Their Laietan jazz rock, although they claim to belong to the Magic environment, has accelerated moments contrasting with more symphonic moments, this last product of his keyboardist Josep Maria Trotta. His best subject, which occupies the sixth place, still without title, where Atila sounds very much in some instrumental passage.
"We were more of the environment of the Magic, not of the Zeleste of which they were La Mirasol and others. We acted a lot of times in the Magic, and from there we went in August 1977 to the Calella Camping Rock, acting in front of Triana. The rehearsal room we had in Torelló, because two of the members of the group were from there, so we were somewhat disconnected from the Barcelonesa wave, something like Atila, who were from Gerona. Of course, in what is known as "the flat of Vic" we were the kings (there was no one else) I was about 6 years younger than the other members of the group, which at 18-20 years is noticed, and I do not It was more than playing the guitar and thinking about the aunts.
"We lived from '75 to '78 and we made this recording in '79. We produced it, in a semi professional studio, in 1979" with an 8-track tape recorder, "At that time no one recorded. It had to be very good and be very well connected, which we neither. " "The only one who knew anything about music was the keyboards, Jose Mª Trotta, who already died (that's why we will never re-record)." Over the years we recovered it and we were able to digitize it. So, with the computer, at home, I dedicated myself to go polishing the subjects, removing noises and erasing pieces with failures. I also have to say that I re-did some pieces of guitar and bass and some mellotron, but it was not saved if not, but it is not even a 2% "new" (Lluis Escarrá, 2015)

Various ‎– Giallo! (One Suite For The Murderer) (2008, CD, Italy)

Tracklist:
1. Alfio Costa: Frammento Rosso (Intro) (1:08)
2. Dark Session: Visions of Helga (26:08)
3. Leviathan: Vecchi Giochi (21:00)
4. Floating State: Suite dall'inconscio dell'Assassino (25:08)
5. Alfio Costa: Mirrors (Outro) (1:33)
One Suite For The Murderer is an interesting release by the Finnish-French connection Colossus and Musea! Giallo!, based upon the famous movie Deep Red (1975) by Dario Argento, contains five compositions by Italian artists. Keyboardist Alfio Costa performed the intro and the outro; he also joined the musical project Dark Session for the first epic composition. The other two epics, both exceeding twenty minutes, have been recorded by the well-known Italian formation Leviathan and by Floating State.

Alfio Costa - Frammento Rosso (Intro): the album starts with a warm grand piano, pleasantly blended with the MiniMoog.

Dark Session - Visions of Helga: the musical project Dark Session is an offshoot of the ELP-inspired band Tilion and features multi-instrumentalist Flavio Costa who has invited guest musician Alfio Costa on vintage keyboards and Hamadi Trabels for the dark speaking voices. The name of the band refers to the often dark atmospheres with a frequent use of the unsurpassed mellotron, blended with the distinctive harpsichord sound and sensitive electric guitar runs in a rather spacey and ominous atmosphere. Dark Session creates a great tension between the mellow parts and the more powerful and bombastic interludes with fiery and protrusive guitar riffs and a powerful and dynamic rhythm section. The music often resembles King Crimson’s dark album Red, but supplemented with the fat sound of the MiniMoog. The music also reminds me of the Japanese King Crimson-clone Bi Kyo Ran because of the biting Fripperian guitar sound and the powerful rhythm section. Anyway, despite these obvious references, I was carried away during this mellotron- drenched composition!

Leviathan - Vecchi Giochi: nowadays Leviathan is a trio that invited a male and a female vocalist for this song. We can enjoy 24-carat symphonic rock with vintage keyboards like the MiniMoog, Hammond and mellotron. It starts with a beautiful grand piano, classical orchestrations and inspired Italian vocals. The music strongly alternates between dreamy, mid-tempo rhythms and bombastic sounds featuring sparkling piano and fluent Hammond-organ. Due to the heavy Moog Taurus bass pedal sound and the Steve Hackett-like guitar, Leviathan evokes Wind And Wuthering-era Genesis. What a wonderful music! The final part is great, delivering a slow rhythm with bass pedals, synthesizer flights and mellotron choirs, topped with passionate Italian vocals. Goose bumps!

Floating State - Suite Dall 'Inconscia Dell' Assassino: this six-piece formation makes without doubt the most adventurous and varied prog rock on Giallo! It is less traditional and more experimental with avant-garde and jazz elements. This composition has a swinging rhythm with lush instrumentation: classical guitar, flute, saxophones, vibraphone, a wide range of vintage keyboards and even the distinctive theremin. At times, the music has interesting changing atmospheres and is sometimes rather experimental. The interplay is strong and I was pleased with some parts featuring mellotron choirs, vibraphone and warm vocals.

Alfio Costa - Mirrors (outro): the final track begins with ominous sounding grand piano that gradually turns into a dreamy piece. Simply wonderful! Musea and Colossus did it again!

The year is 1975, the first golden era of Prog is at it's peak and three American musicians Kenn Pierog (Bass), Bill Drobile (Keys) and Greg DiDonato (Drums) decide to form a band that will be called EARTHRISE, a clear reference to the name of a CAMEL song even though they considered themselves more in the style of EL&P.
The band starts to play mostly live, but in 1977 in a small studio they release their first album just called Earthrise, but being that this was the first big project of the studio, they were disappointed with the thin sound of the album, so they only pressed 400 copies, some of which were sold and others were given to friends and after some gigs the bad splits in 1979 without recording a new album.
But the surprises begin, Earthrise becomes a collector's issue, reaching prices of $ 800.oo to $ 1,000.oo in auctions, and hidden fans contact the band asking for new albums that didn't existed. So in the year 2000 the band is reformed and they decide to make a new recording of the original music, sadly this was a huge problem, but being that people kept calling and the master tapes were missing, they make a remastered CDR from an old vinyl, that is being sold in their site with some success. Now, they have decided to release a new record, but the project is still on stand by.
I had heard that EARTHRISE was mostly an EL&P clone, but this is unfair, from the Youtube videos, I hear }some sort of CAMEL oriented band (More alive than CAMEL of course), with a massive use of Hammond Organ and keyboards that reminds a bit of EL&P, but in general terms is quite an original and fresh sound despite the years passed. A very good band that deserved a different fate.

✞✞ Segrate (Milano hinterland), border country between the Roman Empire and the place where ferocious barbarians dwell ...✞✞

ATTILA FLAGELLO DI DIO (1982) is probably the most beloved movie by fans of ‘80s cult films and lead actor Diego Abatantuono, doubtless one of the most important protagonists of this genre that abandons the rules of time.
The score by Maetro Di Cioccio and Maestro Mussida is no less powerful. The first film score by two of the most important artists in the Italian rock musical landscape is right on target, dominated by typical PFM sounds, in great shape and containing the complete performance of this iconic score. Their straight forward rock score—melodic, rhythmic, of great quality both in composition and in its execution—is now available in this deluxe edition that features the original album program plus 17 unreleased cues: more than 70 minutes of absolute quality cult sound!

1976-1977 Concerts

The first half of this album is from their concert in February 1976 that lead to the arrest of them and many of their fans and collaborators, and then prompted Vaclav Havel and others to write and sign Charta 77 as a proclamation against the actions of the government (and their violations of international treaties they had signed).
The second half is from a concert over a year and a half later (since some of the members spent time in jail) at Vaclav Havel's house. So obviously, this whole recording is from a pretty important time for the underground culture in Czechoslovakia at the time.. (QWE2323)

Recorded in 1974/75, mainly at Houska Castle, enabled by the castle's then warden Svatopluk Karásek, with some songs being recorded in Prague. The album could not be officially released and distributed under the former Communist regime in Czechoslovakia; instead fans duplicated tapes with one another, often resulting in poor technical quality. It was released in 1978 in France by SCOPA Invisible Production. In the Czech Republic a remastered version was published in 2001 by Globus Music. The album title is a parody of The Beatles' album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Most of the songs on the record are settings of poems by Egon Bondy. The author of the album title is Ivan Hartl, a Czechoslovak emigrant living in London.

Piano, Keyboards – Ted Moses

In early-80's Ken Ramm was an unknown Canadian guitarist from the Toronto area. However he had to have some tight relationship with the FM crew. And that's because the whole FM team participated in his solo album ''Dragon'': Martin Deller plays the drums, Ben Mink uses the electric mandolin and violin and even Cameron Hawkins appears on vocals in one track.Ramm was also supported by David Piltch on bass, Ted Moses on piano/keyboards, while saxophonist Michael Stuart appears in one track as well. The album was privately released in 1981 and distributed also in the UK via Rag Baby Records.

The first pair of tracks indicate that here we have to deal with a fiery Fusion album with incredible twists and turns, having a melodic but very adventurous sound full of nasty keyboards, jazzy piano and violent violin and sax solos, maybe akin to Dixie Dregs.Ramm's guitar work appears to be very consistent and enjoyable, but ''Just like I remembered her'' will reveal the composer's more emotional side, an atmospheric, laid-back piece with smooth guitar lines and background synthesizers/ pianos. Things will get back on track on the flipside with the intense Fusion stylings coming back, led by Ramm's tight guitar moves and the nervous keyboard plays of Moses, offering music close to Ethnic Jazz and tropical Prog/Fusion with Mink delivering again some nice EDDIE JOBSON-like violin scratches. Again the last track of a vinyl's side will be a pleasant surprise.''The bash'' features Ramm's best guitar performance, passing from nice leads to clever solos and captivating the listener with his unique touch.

Even if ''Dragon'' remained an under-the-randar release, Ramm would enjoy a nice career with his band Euphoria, far from his early style and closer to the likes of modern Electronica.
Well-played and intricate Prog/Fusion with balanced senses of melody, complexity and virtuosity. Strongly recommended. (apps79)
